Documentation That Actually Gets Used

Bad documentation is worse than no documentation. It wastes everyone's time.

What Works

Screenshots: Show, don't just tell. Every step gets a screenshot.

Videos: 2-minute Loom videos for complex workflows. Customers love them.

Search: If they can't find it, it doesn't exist. Search functionality is mandatory.

Examples: Real examples, not foo/bar placeholder nonsense.

What Doesn't Work

Long paragraphs: No one reads walls of text.

Technical jargon: Your users aren't engineers. Write for them.

Outdated docs: Wrong information is worse than no information.

Our Stack

  • Notion for internal docs
  • Simple website for customer docs
  • WhatsApp for "docs that don't exist yet"

The Process

  1. Customer asks question
  2. Answer it
  3. Document it
  4. Next time, send the link

Eventually, common questions become uncommon.

The ROI

Less support time. Happier customers. More time for building.

Good docs are a force multiplier.
